the bottega PROJECTS
Bottega: noun.
The studio of a master artist, in which lesser artists, apprentices, or students learn by participating in the work.
The Bottega is a group of artists and professors who wish to share art-making technologies in various media. We specialize in pigment history, manufacture and ancient painting techniques, and encourage modern multimedia approaches. We work with several American universities in Italy, share our research and experience at conferences, collaborate with other artists, and participate in exhibitions. We offer courses through our affiliate universities, private specialized workshops in Siena and Venice, and residencies in the beautiful Sabina region of Italy. Our fresco projects provide a service to the community in researching and recuperating historical structures, but also provide a hands-on learning experience for students, teachers, and artists. All of our courses address the cultural heritage of Italy, in art, agriculture, and food; and the strong connection between them.
